New Music Friday: June 4, 2021

PopWaves is so excited to share the hottest new music releases in Pop music and beyond with you every week! There were so many new releases this week, so we will put a focus on new releases from lesser-known artists, comeback releases, and independent artists. Without any further ado, let's dive into this week's new releases.

Spinning Top - Alayna x Sango (Independent)

Alayna is back with her first release of 2021 and she teams up with Sango on "Spinning Top." "Spinning Top" is chill and vibey. It is a great song to kick back and relax to. The atmospheric pads and production perfectly complement Alayna's ethereal vocals. If you've never heard of Alayna before, we recommend that you listen to "Bliss," "High Off You," and "Sweet Soul." We can't wait to hear what's next from Alayna and Sango (separately or together)!

By Your Side - Calvin Harris featuring Tom Grennan (Sony Music Entertainment UK) After what seemed like an extended period of time away, Calvin Harris is back with a new single just in time for summer! His comeback single features Tom Grennan and leans more towards EDM production than lyrical content. However, the lyrics that are there are impactful. This song is still meaningful, even with minimal lyrical content. While it wasn't what I was hoping for from Calvin, it is STILL a summer bop that will be on my playlist for Summer 2021!

Don't Say You Love Me- joan (Photo Finish Records)

Joan is one of the bands that I recently came across and fell in love with. Joan has a fun indie-pop sound, similar to bands Nightly and The Wldlfe, whom we are also fans of! Their new song "don't say you love me" has fun production, but the lyrics are somewhat melancholy. If you've never listened to joan before, listen to "brokenhearted" and "all the way." We can't wait to hear more of Joan!

Bet - Kristinia DeBarge featuring Eric Bellinger (Red7 Entertainment)

Kristinia DeBarge is back with her first release of 2021! It's been a minute since we've heard from Kristinia, much less have a full body of work on the way. However, Kristinia has been teasing a new project and this is hopefully the first taste of that! Kristinia went hard on this song! She brought in an in-demand feature with Eric Bellinger and the production and delivery are very in right now! "Bet" reminds me of her material from around 2015-2016, some of which ended up on her EP Thinkin Out Loud. We can't wait to hear more from Kristinia and can't wait for the music video to drop on Friday, June 11th!

Troubled Waters - Snoh Aalegra (Epic Records)

Snoh Aalegra is back with her first release of 2021 from the Gully soundtrack! Snoh Aalegra delivered on this chill and vibey soundtrack single. As with everything else Snoh puts out, it is R&B perfection. We are looking forward to whatever comes next from Snoh and hopefully seeing her live on tour sooner rather than later!

So Far Away - Surfaces (Surfaces Music/10K Projects)

Continuing the rollout of their next project, Surfaces releases their next song "So Far Away." "So Far Away" is a chill summer anthem! It is beachy and reggae-inspired. The perfect song for a day on the sand and in the waves! We can't wait for Surfaces' highly awaited project and tour!

Pasadena - Tinashe x Buddy (Independent)

Tinashe teams up with Buddy on her new single "Pasadena." "Pasadena" is a fast-paced breezy bop that is perfect for summertime. It is also the first taste of Tinashe's next project that she is teasing. We're not sure what's next from Tinashe, but we know she's going to take you on the "Ride of Your Life" with her upcoming project!

Destiny - Young Rog (LVRN/Interscope Records)

Virginia's own Young Rog returns with his new single "Destiny." After discovering him through VA media, he went on to sign with LVRN, home to Summer Walker and other musicians. "Destiny" is the follow-up to his single "Bullsh*t" with Summer Walker. "Destiny" is vibey and catchy, just like his last single. We can't wait to hear what's next for VA's Young Rog!
