New Music Friday: May 28, 2021 releases

PopWaves is so excited to share the hottest new music releases in Pop music and beyond with you every week! Without any further ado, let's dive into this week's new releases.

Creature of Habit - JoJo (Warner Records) Coming off of a busy 2020 and being crowned runner-up on The Masked Singer, JoJo is back with her new song "Creature of Habit." "Creature of Habit" is a sultry and sexy song with a video to match it. With its catchy hook and JoJo showing off her powerhouse vocals, "Creature of Habit" will be stuck in your ears for weeks to come.

Vacation - Dirty Heads/Train (Better Noise Music)

This was one of the more surprising releases of the week. Reggae group Dirty Heads released this remix of their 2017 hit "Vacation" with an unexpected feature from the pop band Train. "Vacation" is a smooth reggae summer jam with hip-hop influence. We also appreciated the fun and uplifting message of "Vacation." Who doesn't want every day to feel like "Vacation" because they love what they do?

West Like - Destiny Rogers/Kalan.FrFr (Beach Wave Sound/RCA Records)

Destiny Rogers has consistently delivered bop after bop since her debut single "Tomboy," and "West Like" is no exception. The vibey, throwback production along with the feature from Kalan.FrFr remind me of her previous single "Lo Lo" and Bruno Mars' singles "24k Magic" and "Finesse" featuring Cardi B. The video for "West Like" was also released today and matches the good vibes from the song. Keep your eyes out for a cameo from singer Dev in the video as well.

Makes Me Wanna Cry - Kaci Brown (NHMM, LLC)

Kaci Brown is known for her releases in the 2000s and for being a member of country duo Brown & Gray. However, Kaci is starting a new path for herself with her first solo release in years. The production is a mix of pop, country, and rock. The lyrics are quite vulnerable, which comes as no surprise to those who follow Kaci's life and music. Overall, "Makes Me Wanna Cry" reminds me of a mix between Meghan Trainor's doo-wop sound and Jana Kramer's country-pop sound. This song is definitely a standout among this week's releases.

True Love - Luna Elle (Hot Freestyle Records)

Before today, I had never heard of Luna Elle. However, I came across a video of her singing while I was scrolling through my Instagram feed. It immediately caught my attention and led me to her first single release, a song entitled "True Love." "True Love" has a vibey and soulful instrumental, a mix of new school and old school R&B. "True Love" also showcases Luna Elle's incredibly soulful voice and strong vocal presence. Did I also mention that she's only 15 years old? Luna Elle has a bright future ahead and we can't wait to hear what's next.

Live to Survive - MØ (Sony Music Entertainment UK)

It's been a while since we've heard from singer MØ. She's known for her hit song "Final Song" and her collaboration with Major Lazer on "Lean On." However, today MØ releases her new single "Live to Survive." Simply put, "Live to Survive" is a pop masterpiece. The 80s synthwave influence perfectly captures your attention and the chorus of this song hits hard. Dance clubs will eat this song up (and so should you)!

Forever Never - PnB Rock/Pink Sweat$/Swae Lee (Atlantic Records)

PnB Rock returns with a superstar collaboration that features R&B singer Pink Sweat$ and Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd fame. "Forever Never" is a smooth song to put on replay if you need a chill Hip-Hop/R&B song to vibe to. This is a collaboration that you don't want to overlook!

Other Notable Releases:

100 Millones - Bad Bunny

One Foot In Front of The Other - Griff

I Only Date Cowboys - Kylie Morgan

Tell You Everything - Robyn Ottolino

Pick Me Up - Sam Feldt/Sam Fischer

Jalebi Baby - Tesher/Jason Derulo

Stay tuned for a more in-depth single review of JoJo's new song "Creature of Habit."
